'Jaimala's claims must be probed'
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has decided to seek a crime branch probe into Kannada actress Jaimala's claim that she had entered the sanctum sanctorum of Sabarimala temple back in 1987.
The temple is out of bounds for women aged between 10 and 50. The presence of the actress in the inner temple amounted to defiling of the deity, the board held.

The board had earlier made a vain bid to interrogate the actress.
The TDB vigilance squad, led by superintendent Ashok Kumar, was turned away by Jaimala on the plea that she was not informed of the interrogation in a proper manner.
The squad had, however, recorded statements of at least 14 TDB functionaries, priests and security personnel who worked in the temple 18 years ago.
Submitting their conclusions on the basis of these interrogations on Friday, the squad termed Jaimala's claims as "mysterious" with a seemingly "ulterior motive".
According to TDB president G Raman Nair, all those the squad questioned felt Jaimala's claim was beyond belief, as a young woman would have been prevented from entering the temple base.
"The board is of the view that her aggressive and repeated assertions of violating temple rules amounted to disgrace of a famous shrine of South India and calls for a Crime Branch probe in to the entire matter.
Since the TBD vigilance has no legal jurisdiction in the inter-state affair, the police alone can do it," said Nair.
